McLaren F1 Team Makes History with Addition of First Female Driver

Bianca Bustamante Becomes McLaren's First Female Driver

Bianca Bustamante has made history by becoming McLaren's first-ever female driver. The 18-year-old racer from the Philippines has joined the British motor racing team's development programme.

Successful Season in F1 Academy

Bustamante made her single-seater debut in the 2022 W Series and this year raced in the inaugural F1 Academy season with PREMA racing. She has already achieved two wins and two podium finishes.

Looking Ahead to the Future

McLaren has included Bustamante in their programme for the 2024 F1 Academy grid and she will run their livery. She is also set to switch teams to ART Grand Prix next season.

Joining McLaren's Talented Rank

Under the guidance of legendary driver Emanuele Pirro, Bustamante will be part of McLaren's talented team as she aims to compete in the prestigious F1, IndyCar, and Formula E.

Bustamante expressed her gratitude for the opportunity, saying, "To sign with McLaren and ART Grand Prix is way beyond anything I could've ever imagined growing up racing karts in the Philippines." She is determined to continue improving and make a title challenge in the upcoming F1 Academy season.

Bustamante thanked Susie Wolff and the team at F1 Academy for their efforts in promoting opportunities for women in motorsport and helping them reach their full potential.
