Meet Jessica Hawkins: The Trailblazing Woman in F1

Breaking Barriers: From Karting Champion to James Bond Stunt Driver

Motorsport ace Jessica Hawkins has never been one to shy away from breaking down social barriers. The 28-year-old former British karting champion made history as the first woman to test an F1 car in five years. Hawkins, who also worked as a stunt driver in the James Bond movie "No Time To Die," is making waves in the male-dominated world of motorsport.

Making History: Behind the Wheel of an F1 Car

Aston Martin gave Hawkins the opportunity to test their 2021 F1 car at the Hungaroring, the venue of F1's Hungarian Grand Prix. She became the first woman since 2018 to drive an F1 car, joining the likes of reserve driver Felipe Drugovich. Hawkins raced for 26 laps and described the experience as a dream come true. Her performance left her proud, and she hopes to inspire other women to follow their dreams.

Aston Martin's Response and the Lack of Women in F1

Aston Martin team principal Mike Krack praised Hawkins for her preparation and maturity during the test drive. He commended her quick adaptation to the F1 car and her impressive performance on the track. While Hawkins is making history, the lack of women in F1 is still apparent. The last woman to drive an F1 car was Tatiana Calderon in 2018, while the last female F1 race driver was Italian Lella Lombardi in 1976. However, barriers are slowly being broken down, with drivers like Sophia Floersch making their mark in F3.

From Stunt Driver to F1 Testing: Hawkins' Journey

Hawkins' journey has been filled with ups and downs. After facing financial challenges in her racing career, an opportunity as a stunt driver for the "Fast and Furious Live" show reignited her passion for motorsport. This led her to become a W Series driver and eventually secure a role in the James Bond movie "No Time To Die." Hawkins describes the experience as both challenging and rewarding, and she is proud of what she has accomplished.
