Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton are level on seven world championship wins

Schumacher, 53, won all four races in this version of the F300.

Although he did not win that year’s title as he was beaten by Mika Hakkinen.

The vehicle has the chassis number 187, a complete three litre V10 engine and 800 brake horsepower.

It was sold by Sotheby’s Auction House for £5,272,818 in Monterey, Mexico.

It becomes the fourth most expensive F1 car ever behind two other Ferraris driven by the seven-time world champion and a vintage Mercedes.

The third most expensive was Schumi’s car used in the 2002 Austrain Grand Prix where he was controversially allowed to overtake teammate Rubens Barrichello on the last lap to win the race.

He went on to win the championship in the car.

In second place was Schumacher’s 2001 car used in the Monaco Grand Prix that hit the £6million mark.

It takes the total sales of legend’s F1 cars to £17million.

The most expensive ever sold is the 1954 Mercedes W196R driven by Juan Manuel Fangio as he won the title.

Schumacher himself has a £7million car collection that includes a rare Ferrari he drove in F1 worth £2.8million.

It was purchased for a staggering £24.5million.

Schumacher current health state is unknown following his skiing accident in 2013 but it’s reported he is having £115,00-a-week special care.
