Michael Schumacher Memorabilia Sells for £2 Million in Auction

F1 Legend's Items Fetch High Prices

A collection of memorabilia belonging to F1 race ace Michael Schumacher was sold at auction for a staggering £2 million more than a decade after his final race.

Record-Breaking Sale

Devoted collectors and fans of the German driver snapped up 159 items of memorabilia, including helmets, racing suits, gloves, boots, and even bottles of champagne. The highly anticipated auction exceeded expectations, with the total sale amounting to £2,081,341, over £600,000 more than estimated.

Top-Selling Items

The most expensive item sold was a signed helmet from when Schumacher won the F1 Championship in 2003, which fetched £96,000. Other notable sales include Nike Formula 1 racing boots from 2000, which went for £14,400, and a pair of signed Ferrari gloves worn during his sixth title-winning season, purchased for £12,480.

A Glittering Career

Schumacher, who retired from racing in 2012, held the record for the most wins at 91 during his illustrious 21-year career. The auction allowed fans to own a piece of history and celebrate Schumacher's remarkable achievements in the sport.

RM Sotheby's, the Auction House Behind the Sale

The collection was sold by RM Sotheby’s in Monterey, California, US. A spokesperson for the auction house described Schumacher as a "force of nature" and emphasized that the collection included more than 75 lots of race-worn clothing and equipment spanning the entirety of the racing legend's career.

The Man Behind the Memorabilia

Schumacher, 54, has not been seen in public since suffering a near-fatal ski accident in 2013. The auction provided fans an opportunity to connect with the F1 icon and relive his remarkable moments on the track.
