Former F1 Driver Reveals How Schumacher's Family is Coping
It has been almost ten years since Michael Schumacher's devastating ski accident in 2013, and very little is known about his condition. However, his wife, Corinna, is carrying on in the way he would have wanted, according to a close friend of the racing icon. Former F1 driver and Schumacher's teammate Johnny Herbert spoke to Grosvenor Sport and described Corinna as "very strong" in the face of the "huge void" left by the accident.
Private Life Remains Private
Corinna Schumacher has made it a priority to protect her husband's privacy, with only their immediate family and closest friends knowing any details about his condition. The family is getting on with their lives, but as Herbert stated, "private does mean private."
Following in His Father's Footsteps
Schumacher's son, Mick, has followed his father's footsteps onto the F1 track. Herbert revealed that Corinna has been a "huge support" to Mick as he pursues his racing career. However, Mick has never had the opportunity to talk to his father for advice about the profession.
A Dedicated and Innovative Athlete
Herbert fondly remembered Schumacher as a dedicated and innovative athlete in the field of Formula One. He described Schumacher's fitness levels as giving him a significant advantage and credited him with changing the physical and mental side of how drivers prepare. Schumacher's determination and drive are missed by those close to him, and Herbert expressed a desire to have him back.
A Heartbreaking Update
Formula One's CEO, Stefano Domenicali, who worked with Schumacher at Ferrari, gave a heartbreaking update on the racing legend's condition. He expressed that living in Schumacher's situation for ten years is something he wouldn't wish on his worst enemy. Schumacher's ex-manager, Willi Weber, also revealed that he has no hope of seeing the F1 legend again after being shut out of his life for the last decade.
Overall, Schumacher's family continues to carry on in his absence, with Corinna remaining strong and supportive. The racing world remembers Schumacher as a trailblazer and an influential figure in Formula One.
