Michael Schumacher’s Former F1 Rival Reveals Banned Visit After Skiing Accident

Rubens Barrichello shares his experience on Flow Podcast

Rubens Barrichello, former Ferrari rival of Michael Schumacher, recently opened up about a time he was denied a visit to the F1 legend after his skiing accident. In a podcast interview with Flow Podcast in Brazil, Barrichello revealed that he called Schumacher's team to express his desire to visit but was told that it wouldn't be helpful and that he might be sad. Despite this, Barrichello expressed his love for Schumacher's family and reminisced about their time together at Ferrari.

A Complex Rivalry at Ferrari

Barrichello and Schumacher had a complex and significant relationship during their time as teammates at Ferrari from 2000 to 2005. Schumacher, a seven-time World Champion, was the team's leading driver, while Barrichello played a supporting role. Their rivalry was marked by controversial team orders imposed by Ferrari, favoring Schumacher over Barrichello. This led to tense moments in Formula One, including instances where Barrichello had to give up positions to Schumacher, even when he seemed to be faster.

Remembering Schumacher's Accident

Barrichello also shared an emotional moment when he led a prayer for Schumacher during a New Year's celebration in California. However, his son questioned him about their rivalry at Ferrari, leading Barrichello to explain that much of what he had heard was just toxic gossip. Despite their rivalry on the racetrack, Barrichello and Schumacher had a friendly relationship off the track.

Schumacher's Private World

After his tragic ski accident, Schumacher's inner circle has become smaller as his family continues to keep his health a secret. His wife, Corinna, has created a private world around him since 2013, limiting the number of people allowed to see him. She has also taken steps to maintain their privacy, including selling assets and converting part of their home into a hospital for his care. Felipe Massa, another former Ferrari driver and teammate, has also visited Schumacher and expressed his respect for Corinna's decisions.

While there is still hope for Schumacher's recovery, there have been no recent updates on his condition. Barrichello and Massa continue to pray and hope for his return to the race track.
