Red Bull Boss Fires Back at Mercedes Chief Over ‘Wikipedia’ Comment Ahead of Potential F1 Constructors’ Championship Win

Taunting Toto

Red Bull team boss, Christian Horner, has responded to Toto Wolff's recent comment regarding Max Verstappen's success, as the Red Bull team gets closer to securing their sixth F1 constructors' championship title.

A Disingenuous Remark

Wolff, the Mercedes boss, dismissed Verstappen's remarkable run of ten consecutive victories after the Italian GP as "irrelevant" and something "for Wikipedia". His remark drew criticism, and Horner couldn't resist taking a dig at his rival as Red Bull approaches the potential championship win in Japan this weekend.

Reflecting on Success

Horner took the opportunity to reflect on Red Bull's rise since the team was formed in 2004. He stated that when he first joined, it was clear that Red Bull's owner, Dietrich Mateschitz, had entered F1 with the intention to compete. They initially acquired the former Jaguar F1 team, which was known for its consistent seventh-place finishes. However, Horner emphasized that no one could have predicted the team's incredible success over the past 19 seasons. He also mentioned Red Bull's future plans and their upcoming collaboration with Ford in 2026 to develop their own powertrain.

Looking Forward

While acknowledging their achievements, Horner emphasized the importance of looking forward. He dismissed Wolff's comment about Wikipedia, stating that nobody relies on it these days. Horner highlighted the potential milestone of winning the championship and expressed his immense pride in the team's accomplishments.

Verstappen's Performance in Practice

Max Verstappen, Red Bull's standout driver, is looking strong in the practice sessions leading up to the race in Suzuka. He topped both FP1 and FP2 and seems to have put his recent struggles in Singapore behind him. Verstappen expressed his confidence in the car's performance and acknowledged the challenge of tire degradation on the Suzuka track.

McLaren's Lando Norris Responds to George Russell's Prediction

Lando Norris of McLaren shrugged off George Russell's prediction that he is one of the favorites for victory this weekend. Norris jokingly questioned if Russell had been watching the previous races this season, highlighting the challenges the McLaren team has faced.
