Sebastian Vettel under investigation for taking F1 official’s scooter and completing Australian GP lap after practice

FOUR-TIME Formula One world champion Sebastian Vettel is under investigation for taking an official’s scooter and completing a lap after Australian Grand Prix practice.

The German’s light hearted “lap of honour” on the commandeered scooter came after his Aston Martin car suffered a power outage and caught fire during the first practice session.

The four-time world champion waved at the crowd as he made his way around the track on the scooter

Vettel grabbed a fire extinguisher and tried to put the fire out himself.

It is believed an F1 official was sent to Vettel on a scooter to bring him back to the pits.

But instead, Vettel hopped on the scooter and set off down the rest of the track.

The 34-year-old had his helmet halfway off his head so that the cheering crowd could see his face.

Vettel also took his hands off the handlebars to wave.

One commentator asked: “Where has Vettel got this moped from?”

And his question was answered: “He’s nicked it. Normally you get a lift on the back but I’ve never seen the driver just take it.

“He’s going around the circuit, I have never seen this before … it’s like a lap of honour.”

Race stewards have launched an investigation into the incident.

This is on the basis that Vettel may have entered the track without permission.

Vettel may also get into trouble for not having his helmet on properly, as well as taking his hands off the handlebars to wave.
