Monty, 57, said he needed new shirts to fit him after shedding almost three stone during lockdown.

The 31-time European Tour winner was famously mocked by American fans during vicious Ryder Cups of the past.

They would call him ‘Mrs Doutbfire’ and Monty’s dad James once walked off the course because he could not bear to hear his son receive such abuse.

But it’s the famously volatile Scot who has had the last laugh with his slimline new look.

Leeds fan Monty showed it off on Instagram as he celebrated his side’s promotion to the Premier League.

Explaining how he shifted the weight, Monty, who now plays on the Champions Tour in America, told PGATour.com: “We’ve been quite strict in Europe, not leaving the house so I’ve lost about 40 pounds which was good, I needed to do that.

“I just haven’t eaten as much, so that’s easy enough.

“My instructor couldn’t work so we had to do classes online and then eventually we figured out that she could come into the garden at my home and stay safely a few meters away.

“Beyond that, I am stretching so my flexibility is good.

“I’ve been doing strength work on my bike and on the treadmill.

“Losing weight is one thing, but then you can lose everything with it, the power, the muscle and the ability to play the game so you have to keep up strength.”
