Golf is known for its traditional and classy image, but John Daly has always been a flamboyant character, both on and off the course. In a recent interview on the Full Send Podcast, the two-time Major winner shared an incredible story about a fan who generously paid his $27,000 strip club bill.
A Drunk Fan to the Rescue
After missing the cut at The Masters, Daly found himself in need of some cheering up. He recalled, "Augusta when I missed the cut. I was very mad, I should've made the cut, but we go to the [strip club]." He went on to describe how his girlfriend at the time, Shanae, suggested they visit a local establishment called the "dungeon downtown, Augusta".
A Surprise Gesture
Little did Daly know that karma was on his side that night. As he was preparing to pay his mammoth tab, a drunk fan approached him, shouting, "John how you doing man? I got your tab, don't worry about it!" Daly initially scoffed at the offer, stating that the fan wouldn't want to see the exorbitant amount. However, when the fan insisted, Daly reluctantly showed him the $27,000 bill. To his astonishment, the fan replied, "I got you."
Daly's Wild Reputation
This is just one example of John Daly's unconventional lifestyle. Throughout his career, the PGA Tour star was known for his carefree attitude and eccentric fashion choices. Even his ex-wife, Sherrie Daly, revealed in her book, Teed Off: My Life as a Player's Wife on the PGA Tour, that she had to fend off strippers who flocked to her husband during their marriage.
A Champion on and off the Course
Despite his off-course antics, Daly's talent as a golfer should not be overlooked. He managed to win both the PGA Championship and The Open, with his victory at St Andrews in 1995 being particularly memorable.
John Daly certainly knows how to make headlines, whether it's for his outrageous behavior or his exceptional golf skills. Regardless, he remains a captivating figure in the world of golf.
