SHANE LOWRY was left cursing ‘the morning after the night before’ after winning the BMW PGA Championship.
The Offaly man pulled out a heroic final round performance in Wentworth to edge out Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm by a single shot.

However, Lowry was left cursing ‘the morning after the night before’ early on Monday
Despite being up and at it early the next morning, Lowry did not hold back in his post-round celebrations on Sunday night.
The 2019 Open champion shared a number of photos to Instagram, in which he detailed the festivities.
In one pick on his IG Story, Lowry can be seen lounging back in a seat with the trophy in his left hand and a beer in his right.
Meanwhile, he was joined by pop star and avid golf fan Niall Horan, who was at the tournament to cheer on his fellow Irishman.
The Westmeath singer is a regular feature at golf courses, having joined the likes of Robbie Keane at the ISPS Handa World Invitational Pro Am at Galgorm Castle last month.
Prior to this, in July, he was again hitting the course at the all-star JP McManus Pro Am event in Limerick.
FEELING LOW
While he was more than entitled to his celebrations, Lowry bore the side-effects the following morning.
In a follow-up photo on Monday morning, he was nursing a recovery cup of coffee, captioning it: “Morning after the night before”.
Lowry had to wait in the clubhouse to be confirmed as BMW PGA champion as pal McIlroy finished out his round.
As the Holywood-native stepped up for an eagle effort on 18, he was on -15, just two shots off Lowry on -17.
His putt looked for all the world to go in and set up a tantalising play-off, but for it to stop JUST short of the hole.
When the camera cut to Lowry, the relief was clear, as he bizarrely stuck out his tongue and spun it around, while going cross-eyed.
LOW BLOW
In celebratory mood afterwards, Lowry aimed a parting shot at the LIV Golf Tour rebels who took part in the BMW PGA Championship after winning it.
He told Sky Sports: “I made no secret how I feel about the whole thing.
“I wanted to win for myself first and foremost, but or everyone that has stayed loyal to this Tour I really feel this is one for the good guys.”
He had not been afraid of expressing his thoughts on LIV heading into Wentworth, suggesting that they were being disruptive.
He said: “This is a big talking point in the world of golf, and here for this week.
“I personally can’t say that I’m 100% ok with everyone being here – but there’s some of the guys I kind of don’t mind them being here given what they’ve done for the [DP World Tour] tour over the years.
“Then there’s certain guys that I just can’t stand being here, to be honest.
“I don’t like it that they’re here – to be honest – and the one thing that I don’t like over the last few months is how disruptive they’re trying to be.
“And I get why they’re here – to get world ranking points – and all that – but in a way I think they’re here for that, and to be disruptive. I don’t think they’re here for anything else.”
