John Daly wears Hooters trousers and puffs on cigarette on 16th green and fan favourite misses cut in Open at St Andrews

JOHN DALY wore Hooters trousers and puffed on a cigarette as he continued to draw in the crowds at St Andrews.

The effervescent two-time Major winner, 56, missed the cut on the 150th Open Championship after a second-round 73 left him three over par.

Daly is a huge Hooters fan and has been associated with the chain for years

But the cult hero didn’t let it get him down as enjoyed his afternoon stroll around the famous Scottish course, decked out in more memorabilia from his favourite bar chain.

Daly has long professed his love for Hooters, whose unique blend of chicken wings, beer pitchers and crop-top-wearing waitresses have made their restaurants a global hit.

On day one, Daly carried his clubs in a standout Hooters golf bag -in their famous orange and white colours.

While son and caddie John II sported a bright orange cap of his own with the Hooters logo.

But golf icon Daly went one step further on Friday as he added some snazzy bright orange Hooters trousers into the mix.

And, after lighting up the links with his fashion, the chain-smoking Californian – who was barred from using a buggy this week – then lit up a fag as he was applauded onto the 16th green.

Daly signed a sponsorship deal with Hooters back in April.

He wrote on Twitter: “Can’t express how excited I am to be back with my Hooters family & having my son beside me on the next generation!

The father-son duo love the food and feel a part of the family.

Daly said: “It’s a great deal for me and my son, because he loves the Hooters food – so do I.

“I’ve kind of been with Hooters since 2001; some years I’ve been under contract, a lot of years I wasn’t.

“But [Hooters marketing] said ‘We want to sign you and your son. And you’d be really, truly part of the Hooters family like you are.’”
