Lee Westwood breaks dry January vow with massive bender to celebrate Abu Dhabi Championship win

LEE WESTWOOD broke his Dry January pledge with an almighty bender to celebrate his stunning Abu Dhabi Championship victory.

The British golfer and a few pals found a couple of watering holes in the desert and did their best to drink them dry.

Lee Westwood celebrated in style after his win in Abu Dhabi

Westwood, 46, posted a picture on Twitter owning up to a fierce hangover and questioning whether he should have rounded off the partying with a kebab in the early hours of the morning.

He wrote: Youll be happy to know Ive got a banging headache!!! The chicken shawarma at 3am might have been a mistake!

Westy insisted he was going back on the wagon, saying: That was just a blip although it was a pretty serious one.

Im back on Dry January for the rest of the month. And I might even stay off the hard stuff on February 1 to make up for my little lapse!

Westwoods victory on Sunday means he has now won European Tour events in four decades.

On Thursday, he will go in search of victory No45 at the Dubai Desert Classic with a ringing endorsement from former caddie Billy Foster.

Foster now works for Matt Fitzpatrick, one of three 20-somethings pushed into second place as Westy wrapped up a two-shot victory.

He said: When Matt played with Lee at Sun City last year it was the first time wed been on the course together since we split up.

You could see straight away he was hitting the ball as well as ever.

So its no surprise what he did in Abu Dhabi and I dont think itll be the only time he wins this year.

When Westy gets a bit of confidence hes a tough cookie to beat.

It was nice to see him blub a bit after this win.

Hes still really passionate about playing otherwise hed be sat at home every week with his feet up, watching the racing on the telly!
