RORY MCILROY rang in the New Year in style as he stayed a little closer to home in the luxurious Ashford Castle in Mayo.
The Irish golfer got married at the five-star resort back in 2017.
They returned to pay a visit and ring in the New Year in the comforts and surroundings of Mayo.
McIlroy, accompanied by his wife Erica, posted a snap of the pair dressed up as they rang in the new year.
The post read: “2019 was a great year! Delighted to be starting 2020 and a new decade with our Ashford Castle family.
“Cant wait to see what the next 12 months has in store! Happy New Year everyone!”
The couple wed at the resort in 2017 amid huge security.
They booked the entire castle to guarantee privacy and hired an anti-drone company to foil all attempts by the paparazzi to get photos.
Stars like One Direction’s Niall Horan, golfer Padraig Harrington and actor James Nesbitt were among the guests.
The former world No 1 golfer met fiancee Erica at the 2012 Ryder Cup.
They got together shortly after McIlroy went through a public break-up with tennis star Caroline Wozniacki.
The Northern Irishman called off their relationship after the wedding invites had been sent out.
McIlroy won four times in 2019, and was awarded the PGA Player of the Year award.
He was arguably the leading player of the 2010s.
Rory won 18 times and scooped the Player of the Year award a whopping three times in that span.
According to Forbes’ sporting rich list, McIlroy is the 32nd highest earning sports star in the world, estimated to be worth a whopping 30m.
Although that figure may be a bit low as the Hollywood man scooped a mouth staggering 9m when he won the Tour Championship at the tail end of the year.
According to ESPN, McIlroy has earned a whopping 40m in winnings throughout his career.
Forbes estimates that McIlroy makes 23 m a year in endorsements thanks to long term deals signed with TaylorMade and Nike worth around 225m.
