Rory McIlroy Beats Tiger Woods to £12 Million PGA Tour Bonus Award

, Rory McIlroy Beats Tiger Woods to £12 Million PGA Tour Bonus Award

Introduction

Rory McIlroy has emerged victorious in the PGA Tour's £12 million bonus award, beating out golf legend Tiger Woods. The bonus award, known as the 'Player Impact Program', was introduced by PGA chiefs in 2021 to prevent their top players from joining rival tours.

McIlroy Takes the Top Prize

According to reports from the Telegraph, Rory McIlroy has claimed the top spot in this year's Player Impact Program. While the official results have yet to be released, a leaked memo confirms McIlroy as the winner. The Northern Irishman, who has had successful seasons in Dubai and Scotland, will receive the top cash prize of £12 million.

Woods and Rahm Secure Second and Third Place

Despite not playing since April, Tiger Woods still managed to secure second place in the bonus award, earning a cool £9.5 million. Spain's Jon Rahm claimed third place, taking home £7.2 million.

A "Kick in the Face" for Other Golfers?

Former PGA Tour winner Nate Lashley has criticized the cash prizes, calling them a "kick in the face" to other golfers. Lashley believes that the £100 million spent on the top 20 players out of 150-200 members of the PGA Tour is excessive. He calls for new leadership on the PGA Tour, stating that this decision undermines the rest of the players on the tour.

Support for the Player Impact Program

However, former Tour winner Jason Gore, who is now the principal player liaison executive, defends the Player Impact Program. He explains that the program is designed to reward members who generate the most positive interest in the PGA Tour based on objective measurement criteria.
