Tiger Woods undergoes back surgery for FIFTH time and faces race to be fit for Masters 2021 in April

TIGER WOODS faces a fight to be fit for April’s Masters after a FIFTH operation on his back.

A procedure known as a microdiscectomy was undertaken to remove a pressurised fragment of his spine that had been pinching a nerve.

Tiger Woods has gone under the knife for a fifth time to clear an issue in his back

The American, 45, underwent the same procedure three times across 2014 and 2015.

And it is the first time his back has been operated on since major spinal-fusion surgery in 2017.

Since then, Woods has been enjoyed steady progress back to the top of the game – culminating in Masters glory two years ago.

But he once again felt pain in his back during December’s PNC Championship.

A statement from the golfing superstar on Tuesday claimed the operation was a success.

It read: “[Woods’] doctors and their team have determined [the procedure] to be successful and expect him to make a full recovery.”

Woods added: “I look forward to begin training and am focused on getting back out on tour.”

He is expected to be out for around two months, missing the upcoming Farmers Insurance Open and Genesis Invitational.

This year’s Masters begins on April 5 and Golf Digest report on Woods being confident of making the tournament.

If fit, the 15-time major winner will seek to wrestle his green jacket back from 2020 champion Dustin Johnson.
