, UK Sport: Return dates and how to watch on TV – Premier League football, England test cricket, rugby, F1 and golf

SPORT is coming back to our screens soon, with most sporting events being played without audiences and having to adjust to new rules in order to abide by legal guidelines and minimise the spread of the coronavirus. 

Follow all the drama and suspense below with all the key information for the much awaited return of football, rugby, cricket, golf and Formula 1.

Football

Celebrations won’t be allowed under the new rules

Premier League action is back on Wednesday June 17 with Man City vs Arsenal kicking off the return of the season.

The season return will see some changes as part of Project Restart, with the Premier League outlining new rules to comply with government guidelines in wake of the pandemic.

The Bundesliga has already kicked off with Bayern Munich all but wrapping up the title.

La Liga is set to begin on Thursday June 11, with one one match played on that day and 7 more games to follow on the weekend. The first game will be between Sevilla and Real Betis.

All Premier League matches will be available to watch on Sky Sports, BT Sport, Amazon Prime and the BBC depending on the right holders.

Amazon have said the four games they will broadcast will be free to watch.

Cricket

Cricket is set to be back in July

Whilst there has been little news about cricket since the pandemic all but ensured that summer matches were cancelled, the ICB have flagged that England could host a three-Test series against West Indies in July.

The proposed series, which is still subject to government clearance could be scheduled on July 8 at the Ageas Bowl in Southhampton. This would be followed by Tests at Old Trafford in Manchester on July 16 and 24 respectively.

The TV screening details for these matches is still unknown.

Rugby

There has been very little confirmed about rugby’s return

The domestic season in England was ended by the Rugby Football Union in March while Scottish and Welsh domestic competitions were all cancelled. No date has been set for a return of the Premiership however, the Guiness PRO14 is provisionally scheduled to return on August 22.

Super Rugby in New Zealand will resume on June 13 with Australia to follow suit in July.

Premiership boss Darren Childs has been quiet during the coronavirus lockdown with people panicking about apparent plans being leaked out.

Golf

There’s been very little golf news after most events were cancelled or postponed this year.

Although the European Tour is due to resume on July 22 with the British Masters at Close House Golf Club in Newcastle.

The competition will last until August 30, where it will end with the UK championship at The Belfry, Sutton Coldfield.

Golfing fans can also look forward to Piers Morgan, Harry Kane and Peter Crouch headlining a Paddy Power Golf Shootout.

The celebrities are due to have a charity game at Centurion Club in St Albans.

There will be a live broadcast on the Paddy Power YouTube channel, segments on Sky Sports News and live coverage on talkSPORT.

Formula 1

The first Grand Prix of the season is set to be the Austrian GP in July

On June 2 F1 Chief Executive Chase Corey announced the return of Formula 1 racing which will commence on July 5.

The season will begin on Jul 5 at the Red Bull Ring in Austria, this will be followed a week later with the second race happening.

The chief executive said: ”In the past weeks we have been working tirelessly with all our partners, the FIA and the teams to create a revised opening 2020 calendar allowing us to restart racing in the safest possible way.

“We are pleased to be able to set out our opening eight race calendar today and look forward to publishing our full calendar in the coming weeks.”

Live coverage will be available on Sky Sports.
