GOLFER Grayson Murray had a day to forget at the US Open and vented his frustration by throwing his club and later snapping it over his knee.

World No 544 Murray started off his afternoon in strong form with a birdie on the opening hole.

Murray is left with a wonky club

But his day quickly unravelled and in his view his clubs went from heroes to villains.

As the day progressed Murray tumbled down the order, which culminated in him launching his club at hole seven following a quadruple-bogey.

However, more was to come from the American, as his poor golfing saw the red mist descend at hole 10.

The furious 28-year-old snapped his club over his leg, leaving him with less clubs than he started the day with.

The Sheffield golfer became the first Englishman in 102 years to win the Amateur title when he won it at aged 18 in 2013.

Defending champion Jon Rahm sits in third one shot worse off than the two front-runners.

The world No 2 is looking to become just the third golfer to successfully defend the US Open title.

The likes of four-time Major winner Rory McIlroy and world No 1 Scottie Scheffler are also still in the hunt despite poor third round performances.

Scheffler sits in joint fourth with Keegan Bradley and Canadian Adam Hadwin at -2, while McIlroy sits on -1 tied in seventh with Americans Joel Dahmen and Sam Burns.
