Watch Jordan Spieth hit terrifying shot inches from edge of 70FT CLIFF at Pebble Beach… and still makes par

GOLFER Jordan Spieth took on a shot from the edge of a 70 FOOT CLIFF… and still made par.

On his second shot on the par four eighth hole during the Pebble Beach Pro-Am, the 28-year-old American was faced with either taking a one-shot penalty or facing his fears.

Spieth opted to take the shot on despite it being on the edge of a terrifying cliff

And the former World No1 decided to stand over the cliff edge, perilously close to a 21-metre drop into the Pacific Ocean.

Speaking during the coverage of the shot, CBS analyst Colt Knost said: “This is a scary shot normally, but this is downright terrifying right now.

“I went over and took a stance and yeah, it’s scary.”

And legendary golfer Nick Faldo added: “Are you going to go for that? No way you’d stand there and play that… oh my goodness.”

Yet somehow the 2015 Masters champion managed to hit a superb shot just beyond the green.

He would go on to make par on the hole – vindicating his decision to take the terrifying cliff-edge chip on.

Explaining the decision to take the shot after his round, the American said: “It’s so weird because if you can normally see the ball, like I never had a situation where you can see a ball, get a swing on it, but you’re not going to play it.

“So it was just kind of weird because it was like, well if I can get a swing on it and I can hit it then why would I take a drop?

“Like just whenever, you’re never over, I guess I saw a 65-foot cliff. So it’s an unusual situation. Normally if you’re walking into a hazard, you see a ball, you hit it out.

“I’m just glad I made the par to make it worth it, because I don’t think I would have made par with a drop, but if I made bogey it would have really not been worth it.

“But yeah, it was more of a nervous and adrenaline hitting it and then when I got to the green as I was walking there it was more of an anxiety feeling afterwards. Luckily it wasn’t before.”

Spieth finished his round on 14 under par, just one shot off the lead heading into the final round on Sunday.
