JAMES Fanshawe’s superb record in the Group 1 Prix Jean Romanet continued as Audarya caused a 48-1 surprise.
After Speedy Boarding and Ribbons successes, Fanshawe’s four-year-old made it a memorable hat-trick for the Newmarket trainer.
Not many go from a Newcastle handicap to a Group 1, but that route worked a treat for Audarya.
Always perfectly placed, she travelled like a dream into the straight and jockey Ioritz Mendizabal kicked on at the perfect time.
Hot favourite Nazeef struggled to pick up, but Audarya powered home under what was just a hands and heels ride in the end.
Mendizabal said: “Before the race I spoke to the trainer and he asked me to get a good position, but more importantly to get her to relax.
“He said if she didn’t relax she wouldn’t finish, as it was a very good race.
“She won easy. The trainer wasn’t sure about the ground, he felt she’d prefer good ground so I’m not sure how she won like that.
“It’s a nice story that Francois Doumen bred her, as I know him very well.”
