Arc de Triomphe 2022 runner ratings

MISHRIFF 3

RIFF sounds good. Triple Group 1 winner who has run well without scoring this season.

Trip suits and he’s respected under Buick. Could hit the frame at a big price

TORQUATOR TASSO 4

TOR de force. Shock winner last year in soft ground but has run well this term and went close in a German Group 1 last time.

Will love the ground and we know the track suits. Big chance again under Frankie.

MARE AUSTRALIS 2

HAVE a Mare. Won Group 1 Ganay here last season but below par in the Grand Prix de Saint Cloud. Needs his very best.

SEALIWAY 2

STAY Iway. Not scored since 2021 Champion Stakes at Ascot and rusty when held in a lesser race here latest. Not a certain stayer.

ALENQUER 2

AL pass. Started this season with a Group 1 win in Ireland but was walloped in the Coral-Eclipse before another poor run here latest. Others preferred.

DEEP BOND 1

SHALLOW Deep. Pick of form in Japan is over further and he was last in this 12 months ago.

BROOME 2

BROOME stick. Won Hardwicke at Ascot but was below that last time. Struggled in this last year and ground not ideal.

STAY FOOLISH 1

FOOLISH bet. Short of this level in Japan and held at Deauville last time. Needs much more.

MOSTAHDAF 2

MOST improved. Triple Group 3 winner including at Kempton last time. Stays and goes on any ground. Big leap but is improving.

MENDOCINO 3

MEN to be. Beat Torquator Tasso in Germany this month and was just behind Alpinista last season. Big odds compared to those two.

TITLEHOLDER 3

TITLE bid. Triple Group 1 winner in Japan including on his last two. Talented but soft ground and jockey a slight concern.

BUBBLE GIFT 1

BUBBLE popped. Eighth last year but better form this season. Held in a Group 2 here last time so needs more to figure.

GRAND GLORY 2

NO Glory. Pipped in the Opera here last year and best form has over that race’s shorter trip.

ALPINISTA 5

ALPIN the bag. Wondermare who made it five Group 1 wins on spin in Yorkshire Oaks last time.

She handles any ground and loves this trip. She’s a battler and will go close.

VADENI 4

MAD on Vad. French Derby winner followed up in the Eclipse before another good run in Irish Champion Stakes.

Was staying on so longer trip a plus. Big chance.

AL HAKEEM 3

HAK attack. Improved to win Group 3 last time. Should stay this longer trip and has lots of scope. Place player.

ONESTO 4

ONE love. Won Grand Prix de Paris before a close second ahead of Vadeni in Ireland. Longer trip should be ideal. Chance.

WESTOVER 3

GIVE Over. Followed Epsom third with easy Irish Derby win. Came up short at Ascot in King George. Talented but must bounce back.

DO DEUCE 1

DO One. Group 1 winner in Japan but didn’t seem to enjoy softish ground here last time. Bit to find.

LUXEMBOURG 4

Third in 2,000 Guineas but injury kept him off until Curragh Group 3 win in August.

Stepped up to win Irish Champion Stakes last time and longer trip should suit. Looks a worthy favourite.

Templegate’s Arc de Triomphe tip

ALPINISTA can climb high in the Arc.

Winning would crown a brilliant career for veteran trainer Sir Mark Prescott.

His mare just made it five Group 1 wins in a row at York last time and has too much class.

French Derby winner Vadeni looks ready to step up to this trip and is a big danger, along with last year’s winner Torquator Tasso who will love cut in the ground.

Templegate’s 1-2-3 prediction

This is an Arc big on quantity but low on quality and ALPINISTA can win for Sir Mark and billionaire owner Kirsten Rausing.

VADENI was doing his best work at the finish when third in the Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown earlier this month and he looks capable of better over this trip.

TORQUATOR TASSO won this last year on soft ground and should get those conditions again.

He went close in Germany last time and can hit the places again.

1st Alpinista

2nd Vadeni

3rd Torquator Tasso
