Arc de Triomphe: David Menusier likely to avoid Arc temptations with Wonderful Tonight as he takes aim at Royallieu

TRAINER David Menuisier is likely to avoid the temptation of supplementing Wonderful Tonight for the Arc.

With conditions set to favour his three-year-old, Menuisier raised some eyebrows on Twitter when he suggested he could fork out the €72,000 fee to take on Enable and Love.

Menuisier has trained the likes of Thundering Blue and Danceteria to big race success

But the Sussex-based Frenchman is 90% certain Wonderful Tonight will stick to Saturday’s Group 1 Prix de Royallieu.

Menuisier laughed: “It started as a bit tongue in cheek, but then it is tempting.

“But I’m just doing my job, presenting all the options to the owner, especially with the forecast being particularly favourable.

“It turned into a bit of banter from there and then we decided to put a tweet out about it and see the reaction.

“But ultimately we’re 90% sure we’ll run in the Royallieu on Saturday.”

After John Gosden’s pre-race favourite Enbihaar was ruled out through injury, Wonderful Tonight is a 6-1 chance for Saturday’s Group 1.

And Menuisier thinks his horse named after the famous Eric Clapton tune has a great chance.

He added: “In the Arc, even if the conditions come up as expected, would she realistically go and win the race? Probably not.

“We all know Enable is next to impossible to beat!

“But apart from her I think the race is quite open for the places. So it’s a case of if you want to be in the first five in the Arc or whether you want a Group 1.

“It’s not a done deal, and Saturday’s race isn’t easy, we won’t be undermining anybody and until we run over a new trip we don’t know.

“I think if she was a Group 1 winner already or if she was already entered, I would have said ‘come on let’s give it a go!’

“Or if we had no other options then she could well have been in there.

“Unless Love and Enable come out tomorrow, then I think we’ll be running on Saturday! But we wouldn’t want that to happen anyway!”
