Back-to-back 50-1 winners within the space of five minutes to kick off the day’s racing at Lingfield and Hereford

RACING got off to a stunning start on Wednesday – with back-to-back 50-1 winners!

Punters were left reeling as two outsiders hit the target within five minutes of each other.

There was a 50-1 winner in the opener at Hereford

In the first at Lingfield at 12pm, the John Gallagher-trained Junoesque made all the running to win under Daragh Keenan.

The horse was backed into 50s from an opening show of 80-1 – meaning there will have been at least some happy punters out there!

And like London buses, five minutes later in Hereford’s 12.05 longshot Optimise Prime stayed on gamely to win by a length having drifted from 33-1 to 50s just before the off.

The Ben Pauling-trained runner was having just his second start having been thrashed in a NH Flat race on debut.

He showed signs of greenness in front, but he was well on top at the line under jockey David Bass.

If you’d had put £1 on the double, you’d be collecting a cool £2,601 right about now.

It was a stunning start to the afternoon – and bettors will be hoping for a change of fortune!
