Beloved British racecourse flooded as kayakers take over

Worcester racecourse has been hit by extreme flooding, turning the popular jumps venue into a lake.

The track, located in the city centre and near the River Severn, has been submerged due to burst banks.

Unfortunately, this is not the first time the racecourse has faced flooding, as it has happened in 1998, 2007, 2008, 2013, and 2020.

Worcester racecourse's struggle with extreme flooding

Worcester racecourse has once again fallen victim to extreme flooding, leaving the track submerged in water.

The burst banks of the nearby River Severn have turned the popular jumps venue into a lake.

With racing fixtures across the country affected by the awful weather, Worcester racecourse is hoping to recover before its meetings in May.

Previous flooding incidents at Worcester racecourse

Due to its location near the fast-flowing river, Worcester racecourse has experienced flooding multiple times in the past.

In 1998, 2007, 2008, 2013, and 2020, the venue was flooded, causing disruptions to racing events.

Other racecourses affected by wet winter

The wet winter has taken a toll on racecourses across the country.

Ffos Las in south Wales had to cancel their meeting due to exceptionally heavy rainfall, while Huntingdon's course was underwater in some areas.

However, trainers are optimistic about the upcoming days as they prepare for the Cheltenham Festival in March.

Southwell racecourse temporarily closed for safety concerns

Southwell racecourse has been forced to close to the public due to safety concerns.

Major work is needed before the venue can reopen, with the Winter Derby in February already looking like it will be held behind closed doors.

As of now, only trainers, owners, stable staff, and the track's annual members are allowed at the Nottinghamshire racecourse.
