Devoted Career in Racing

Todd made headlines when he led up Dark Shift, who won the Royal Hunt Cup at the Royal meeting. His win garnered so much attention that he was awarded a World Pool 'moment of the day' prize of £1,000 and a bottle of champagne. Todd started his career in the racing industry in 1959 and spent over 30 years working for the Hills family, initially with Barry and later with Charlie.

Todd passed away on Tuesday surrounded by his family. Charlie Hills, who took over the licence in Lambourn in 2011, broke the sad news on social media. In a heartfelt tribute, Hills expressed how much Todd meant to the yard and the racing industry as a whole, describing him as someone who devoted his life to racing. The loss of Todd will be deeply felt.

Todd's passing has left a void in the racing community, with many paying tribute to the beloved stable lad. Trainer John Berry described Todd as a wonderful man, always friendly and enthusiastic, and an absolute stalwart of the game. ITV presenter Luke Harvey expressed his sadness, calling Todd a lovely man. Former champion jockey Paul Hanagan also mourned the loss, referring to Todd as a great man who will be greatly missed.
