‘Beyond a joke’ – Cheltenham Festival 2023 tickets go on sale but punters fume at price increases

ATTENTION has already switched to next year’s Cheltenham Festival for some.

And as tickets were released for the 2023 bonanza, some punters hit out at the increased prices across the enclosures.

The trademark Guinness Village was packed out across all four days of the Cheltenham Festival

Last week’s Festival was dominated by Willie Mullins who went home a happy man after a record TEN winners.

Stars like Allaho, Sir Gerhard and Energumene impressed on the track but some punters were left with a sour taste in their mouth thanks to the price of food and drink on course.

Some hit out at the price of a pint as well as a £14 gin and tonic served in a plastic cup.

And now with ticket prices up another £10 for next year in some areas, plenty have taken to social media to vent their frustration.

Tickets for the opening day next year are priced from £35 in the Best Mate Enclosure, £52 in Tattersalls and from £83 in Club.

That’s a rise of a tenner in the Best Mate and seven pounds in Tattersalls.

With the price of accommodation in and around Cheltenham also going through the roof this year, some punters are having second thoughts at attending next year’s Festival.

One Twitter user joked: “I see next years Cheltenham early bird club enclosure tickets are up by £8. That means one less pint just to break even.”

During the Festival, the Jockey Club – who own Cheltenham Racecourse – said inflation had sparked an increase in prices for products and services.

But that didn’t convince everyone.

Another punter tweeted: “Cheltenham racecourse putting best mate ticket prices up for the festival 2023 by £10 a day is ridiculous…

“Makes you think twice about committing.”

Tickets for next month’s Randox Grand National on Saturday April 9 have already sold out but can be purchased for the Thursday and the Friday of the meeting.

Tickets start at £30 for Day 1 of Aintree’s meeting.
