Big-spending owner with horse named after porn star flogs all his runners after business enters administration

BIG-SPENDING owner Mike Grech, who named one of his horses after porn star Brandy Love, is selling all his horses.

The 63-year-old landed a Grade 1 win last year with Brandy Love but has been forced into “taking a sabbatical” after his business went into administration.

Quality Insolvency Services Limited was placed into administration in November and that process is still ongoing.

As a result, his two stars Brandy Love and I Am Maximus were sold to the Donnellys and JP McManus respectively.

Grech told the Racing Post: “I have sold my horses and am taking a sabbatical from racing.”

Sickeningly, in his first start in his new colours, I Am Maximus won the Irish Grand National in April.

Grech rose to prominence in racing back in 2020 after buying horses through former top trainer Henrietta Knight at the sales.

Gallyhill and Keskonrisk were bought for an eye-watering £450,000 and £370,000 respectively.

Neither would enjoy any graded success, however, and Grech’s only win at that level came with Brandy Love.

Named after the porn star, Brandy Love has been well beaten in all three of her starts in her new colours.

In total, Grech earned just £78,963 in prize money in Britain, with the £231,850 earned in Ireland still not bringing him anywhere close to breaking even.

I Am Maximus scooped just over £232,000 for his Irish Grand National win, slightly more than what Grech earned in Ireland overall.
