, Boost for cash-strapped racing as Derby at Epsom finally gets sponsor as car retailer Cazoo sign multi-year deal

THE DERBY finally has a new sponsor – and will now be known as the ‘Cazoo Derby.’

The Epsom showpiece had been without backing since Investec dropped out of the running after last year’s renewal.

The Derby at Epsom will be known as the Cazoo Derby from this summer

But online car retailer Cazoo have stepped up to support one of racing’s crown jewels, which will be run on June 5 this summer.

The operation are no stranger to the sporting world – sponsoring Premier League clubs Everton and Aston Villa, as well as being involved in cricket, rugby league and snooker.

The news has been welcomed across the racing industry as it continues behind closed doors with huge costs attached and races like the Gold Cup at Cheltenham also without a sponsor after Magners dropped out.

The multi-year deal will also see the Oaks known as the ‘Cazoo Oaks’ and the brand gaining exposure at all 15 Jockey Club racecourses across Britain.

Nevin Truesdale, Chief Executive of The Jockey Club, said: “Cazoo is a highly ambitious and successful growth brand that matches our ambitions for the future of the world’s most famous Flat race.

“You cannot overstate the importance of The Cazoo Derby to our sport globally and it’s vital we work with a partner passionate about bringing that to life in the years ahead.

“I’m delighted to welcome the Cazoo team to The Jockey Club and horseracing as a sport.”
