Breeders’ Cup prize money boosted by £3m as Frankie Dettori and Hollie Doyle head for Keeneland

The Breeders’ Cup prize pot has been boosted by just over £3m to a stunning overall pot of £26.7m.

It sees one of the already richest races in the sport get a touch richer.

Frankie Dettori is at the Breeders’ Cup and will be racing for a huge pot

Frankie Dettori and Hollie Doyle are among those in Keeneland this weekend hoping to grab a share.

Golden girl Doyle was the star of the summer and will be looking to make a name for herself in the US for the first time.

Doyle will be on board Mighty Gurkha in the Juvenile Sprint Turf.

“The horse is in top form – he’s very relaxed and has taken everything in his stride,” she said.

“The track is riding excellent. At the moment it’s probably good, good to firm ground, and I think they are going to put a bit more water on it – which would be ideal for us.

“He’s settled right in, he hasn’t left a drop of food.”

Dettori meanwhile is still going and proving the one of the top jockeys in the world.

The 49-year-old has six rides and will fancy his chances with New Mandate, a 6/1 shot in the Juvenile Turf.

The pot boost is spread between the Longines Breeders’ Cup Turf – which we have a special boost for Magical at 20/1 – the Longines Breeders’ Cup Classic and the Big Ass Fans Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile.

“These purse increases reflect the Breeders’ Cup’s mission to keep our races competitive on the international stage,” said Drew Fleming, Breeders’ Cup president and CEO.

“Our decision to increase purse payouts to tenth place in all our races is a tribute to the loyal participation of our owners and trainers who support the world championships each year.”
