Hi, what are you looking for?

Horse Racing

Bryony Frost: A shout out to Eric the chef, while I have a strong book of rides at Kempton to look forward to

WE all know racing is full of unsung heroes who do a great job but never get the headlines.

And on Thursday I met up again with one of the best – Eric the chef.

Bryony is heading to Kempton for three rides on Saturday

He works at Huntingdon, and is the man who keeps us fed and healthy whenever we’re riding there.

Eric is by far the best on any of the UK courses when it comes to giving you a good plate of food, and it was no different again this time.

I’d been on the road since 5am, because I was schooling for Lucy Wadham at Newmarket and then off to ride Code Name Lise.

It was a really long day in the wind and the rain with a little snow thrown in, and I was so grateful to Eric.

He cooked me a stir fry and sent me back down the road full to the brim, so I didn’t have to worry about sorting anything when I eventually got home.

Thank you Eric…you are absolutely mega for always giving us a great plate of food every time.

It was a proper winter’s morning when me and Bob set off for Lucy’s, and I had to bring out the big yellow coat come second lot, as my first one was giving in to the rain around the seams.

There were plenty of raised eyebrows when I got that out of the car boot, and I may look a little like a fisherman in it.

It’s such a colour that you could see me a mile off when we were on Long Hill, but it did the job, and I think the others were all quite jealous in the end.

I’m off to Kempton today and really looking forward to it, especially riding Lalor (3.37) in the Coral Trophy.

I’ve done a few schooling sessions with him and had a lot of chats with Donna, who rides him every day.

If you had to paint a picture of an old school chaser, it would be Lalor, and I’m excited to get out on track with him.

I have watched him throughout his career, and it was great when he walked through the gates to join the Ditcheat team this season.

Frost is looking forward to riding Lalor in the Coral Trophy

Lalor had a good first run for us, when he was third in the Paddy Power, and I don’t think he was a big fan of the cheekpieces last time.

Now they’re off again, hopefully we won’t get too much rain, and let’s see what we can do.

I start off on Rubaud (1.50) in the Adonis, who came to Paul’s from France in November, and has done some good sessions schooling out on the grass.

We all call him Rhubarb because we’re not sure how to pronounce his name, so let’s see what the commentator calls him and then we’ll all copy!

Paul also runs Pleasant Man, who was obviously a very smart Flat performer, so it will be exciting to see how he goes.

Then I ride Hurricane Bay (4.45) in the bumper for Lucy. We have been waiting for the better ground, he’s a strongly built type so seems to have a lot of speed, so let’s see.

Until next week, keep kicking.
