Chacun Pour Soi and Honeysuckle light up Leopardstown as Cheltenham Festival markets get serious shake-up

CHACUN Pour Soi will take the world of beating at Cheltenham next month on the evidence of his demolition job in the Dublin Chase.

Willie Mullins’ star chaser made light work of a top field at Leopardstown – and he is now odds-on for the Champion Chase.

Chacun Pour Soi was in a league of his own at Leopardstown

The nine-year-old was an 11th hour non-runner at the Festival last year due to a foot abscess.

But if Mullins can get him there in one piece, he will surely be a cornerstone in many a ‘banker acca’.

His task was made easier when stablemate Min made a pair of shocking blunders and was pulled up mid-way through the race.

And he was far too good for Notebook and Fakir D’Oudaries, who briefly tried to serve it up to him in the closing stages but were left behind in no uncertain terms after the last.

Betfair went 4-6 from even-money for the Champion Chase, with Altior next best at 7-1.

Mullins said: “It was a very good performance. I was a little bit worried going to the third-last if Paul had anything left in the tank, as he seemed to be niggling.

“After the second-last I thought he wasn’t putting the race to bed or anything. Paul felt that he was in command at all stages.

“He just wanted to get down to the last, jump it, and then go. The end result was very good.

“I was worried over the third- and second-last, but Paul said he was just asleep underneath him.

“They didn’t hang around. Min set off to make the pace and then Notebook joined him. Notebook was probably just slicker in the air and Min paid the penalty for that later on.”

Honeysuckle blew them away in the Irish Champion Hurdle – and she will now take on defending champ Epatante in a humdinger in the Champion Hurdle in March. Betfair make them 9-4 joint favourites.

Energumene teed up a mouthwatering Arkle clash with Shishkin when bolting up in the Irish equivalent.

He was left clear when Captain Guinness crashed out at the second last, but he was in cruise control throughout. Betfair clipped him into 11-4 (from 5s) for the Arkle and eased Shishkin to 5-6 from 8-11.

Gaillard Du Mesnil was slashed into 7-2 (from 13-2) for the Ballymore at Cheltenham after a decisive win in the opening race at Leopardstown.

He briefly looked in trouble on the run to the last as stablemate Stattler kicked off the bend, but he hit top gear on the run for home and was well on top at the line.
