Champion jockey Oisin Murphy’s big fancied Epsom Derby ride smashed in betting as odds HALVE ahead of £1.125million race

OISIN MURPHY’S big fancied Epsom Derby ride has been absolutely smashed up in the betting ahead of next Saturday’s £1.125m race.

The champion jockey, who is currently battling a nasty bout of toothache, has been waxing lyrical about Hurricane Lane.

Murphy seemed to love the look of Hurricane Lane for the Epsom Derby

Murphy was asked by fellow Sporting Life ambassador Ed Chamberlin who he would like to ride in next Saturday’s Derby given the choice.

He said he is almost certain to be on one of Charlie Appleby’s runners.

The jockey was most gushing in his praise for the unbeaten Godolphin-owned Hurricane Lane, who has been cut from 16-1 to 8-1 for the big race.

Murphy told Sporting Life: “I really was impressed by Hurricane Lane’s run, particularly at Newbury but also in the Dante.

“He’s lightly raced, he’s unbeaten, he’s going to stay well, he’s super easy to ride and he races on pace and he doesn’t pull.

“He just ticks lots of boxes.

“Bolshoi Ballet was impressive in Ireland. If you take Jim Bolger’s horse out of that race you can really pick holes in the form.

“But he’s an outstanding physical [specimen] and would be top of the list as well.”

The Appleby-trained Hurricane Lane is unbeaten in three races and has already pocketed connections more than £100,000.

Murphy will be in action on Ocean Road in the Cazoo Oaks on the day before the Derby.

He added: “I rode her at the track in the workout on Monday.

“We didn’t go super fast as the ground was heavy, but I was really pleased with her and we’re looking forward to the Oaks with her now.

“She’s come out of the Lingfield trial well.”
