Cheeky outsider stuns punters with 650-1 ride to beat odds-on favourite on the line

PUNTERS were left stunned by ‘I’m Cheeky’ in Australia last night, as it came home as a 650-1 winner.

The five-year-old started the race as the 150-1 outsider and peaked at 650-1 on Betfair in running, before storming home to a memorable victory.

I’m Cheeky came home after being priced at 650-1

He finished just ahead of the odds-on favourite Kingstar Amber.

I’m Cheeky had recorded two wins coming into the Benchmark 58 sprint at Sale, both back in 2019, but had failed to place in all of his other 22 runs.

And even his trainer was stunned.

Trainer Bill Wood told Racing.com: “I was expecting him to run last.”

When asked if he’d backed him Wood added: “Nooo.

“I’ve only backed him twice, and that’s when he won both times at Stony Creek.”

Asked about his turnaround, he said: “Just had him on a treadmill, that’s all I’ve done with him.

“He had a jump out here last week. He has settled a lot, but I don’t know.”
