Chelsea fans could get unexpected winner at Wolves – thanks to horse named after Blues and England star Mason Mount

CHELSEA fans could get an unexpected winner at Wolves tonight – thanks to Mayson Mount.

No, that’s not a mistake, a horse named after the Blues and England star is running in the 5.40 at Wolverhampton.

Mayson Mount, left, was named after Chelsea star Mason Mount

And the three-year-old, trained by Shaun Keightley, is 6-1 to break his maiden tag and get his first ever win.

Josephine Gordon is the jockey tasked with steering Mayson – third in his last run – to victory in the 1m race.

The horse got his name because previous owner Clive Washbourn is a huge Chelsea fan.

Washbourn owned the horse with Raymond Tooth – a top divorce lawyer.

Tooth – who was known as ‘Jaws’ because of his formidable reputation – represented Roman Abramovich’s ex-wife Irina in her divorce battle.

Washbourn and Tooth are both mega racing fans and teamed up to co-own Mayson Mount.

However, they sold the horse to Shelley Tucker and Keightley earlier this year.

The horse has won more than £1,000 from six races and Gordon will wear red and black silks when she jumps in the saddle.

Mayson Mount is part of a long list of horses named after top footballers.

N’Golo – named after Mount’s team-mate N’Golo Kante – ran recently.

And you can take your pick from the runners with Premier League names, including Aguerooo, De Bruyne Horse, Fox Vardy, Van Dijk… and even Pablo Hernandez.

Chelsea were stunned by a 95th-minute Pedro Neto winner when the two teams clashed at Molineux earlier this month.

Olivier Giroud scored Chelsea’s only goal that night – but Mayson Mount could be the real winner tonight.
