Cheltenham Festival: Nigel-Twiston Davies believes stable star Bristol De Mai is forgotten horse of Gold Cup

NIGEL Twiston-Davies thinks stable star Bristol De Mai could be the forgotten horse of the Gold Cup.

Third in the race at 18-1 last year, you can still grab 33-1 for this years renewal with his trainer confident the field is no stronger this time around.

The Naunton-handler told Sun Racing: He doesn’t get the credit he deserves.

I can’t understand how he can be 33-1 and Santini is favourite on the form from Trials Day.

He was giving him 2lbs in the Cotswold, and at the bottom of the hill Bristol looked all over the winner.

But he just slipped badly after three out and lost three lengths, he then had to make his ground up again.

He got himself back into the lead, but the pressure of doing that just got him beat in the end. It was a superb run.

The grey has only been seen twice this year when second in both the Betfair Chase and the Cotswold Chase.

But his trainer is sure he has him as sweet as ever ahead of the Festival feature.

He continued: If it came up really testing we could think about the Ryanair but I’m sure it will be the Gold Cup for him and that doesnt look any better this time around.

He has run plenty of good races around there and he has been placed in two Festivals.

Put it this way Ive taken the fifties that were around after the Cotswold Chase!
