Constitution Hill’s Owner Hits Back at Critics Over Decision to Stay Hurdling

The owner of Constitution Hill, Michael Buckley, has responded to the backlash surrounding the decision to keep the superstar horse over hurdles. Trainer Nicky Henderson recently confirmed that Constitution Hill will not go chasing this season. Despite the criticism, Buckley remains determined to do what he believes is best for the horse and has no interest in apologizing or appeasing his detractors.

"I'm Done Messing with All the Haters"

In a stinging rebuke to his critics, Buckley expressed his frustration and made it clear that he is not fazed by their opinions. Speaking to the Racing Post, he said, "I've no doubt the horse could jump fences because he's a great jumper and he's intelligent, but this is what we've decided." He emphasized that both he and Henderson are experienced professionals who know what is best for the horse, and he has no intention of bowing to the demands of others.

A Bold Decision in the Interest of the Horse

Despite facing criticism on social media, Buckley and Henderson are confident that they have made the right choice for Constitution Hill. While Buckley acknowledges that some may not approve of their decision, he remains committed to enjoying his life and doing what is in the best interest of the horse. "People can be as critical as they like because I don't give a damn," he stated.

The Road to Victory

With the decision to stay hurdling, Constitution Hill's sights are now set on reclaiming his Champion Hurdle crown at next year's Cheltenham Festival. The horse is currently priced as the favorite at 1-2. The plan is for him to compete in the Fighting Fifth at Newcastle and the Christmas Hurdle at Kempton on Boxing Day, following a potential run in the Unibet Hurdle on Trials Day in January. Ultimately, it will be back to Cheltenham for the Festival, with a possible appearance at either Aintree or Punchestown.

Henderson explained, "That's the logical plan and there's no point deviating from it. He's had a good summer – almost too good – but we've plenty of time to get him ready." With their strategy in place, Buckley and Henderson remain focused on achieving victory with Constitution Hill.
