Punters Left Fuming
In March 2020, a highly controversial race took place in Dundalk, leaving punters furious. The race involved the Denis Hogan-trained pair of Tony The Gent and Yuften.
Shift in Betting Odds Sparks Outrage
Yuften, initially favored to win with odds of 8-11, drifted out to 6-4. Despite missing the break, Yuften finished second. However, the controversy arose when Tony The Gent, another horse trained by Denis Hogan, surprisingly won the race. Tony The Gent's odds went from 15-8 to 10-11 before the race, causing outrage among punters.
Investigation Referral
After considering betting patterns and stakeholders' concerns, the matter was referred to the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board (IHRB) for further investigation. The IHRB stated that a comprehensive investigation has been conducted, and a Referral Hearing is scheduled for the 11th and 12th of November. The IHRB's verdict will be published on their website once the hearing is complete.
Trainer Hogan's Previous Ban
This is not the first time Trainer Denis Hogan has faced disciplinary action. In June, he was banned for three months after his horse Ballyadam Destiny tested positive for prohibited substances following a win at Galway in October.
