Coral Gold Cup runners and riders guide

FANION D’ESTRUVAL 2

Jockey: Miss Lucy Turner

NOT a Fan. Decent form at 2m4f and went well in Grade 1s last season. Must give weight away all round and longer trip is a worry.

FIDDLERONTHEROOF 3

Jockey: Brendan Powell

ROOF on high. Cracking second in this 12 months ago from 5lb lower. Stays as his Grand National fifth shows and warmed up over hurdles 19 days ago. Right in the hunt.

THREEUNDERTHRUFIVE 4

Jockey: Adrian Heskin

UNDER orders. Grade 2 winner and fit from a hurdles run at Wetherby. Capable of better so his big weight isn’t an issue and cheekpieces may help. Big chance for Paul Nicholls.

LOSTINTRANSLATION 1

Jockey: Freddie Gingell

LOST his way. Grade 1 winner at best but has become more miss than hit. Down weights but isn’t one to rely on.

BUSSELTON 3

Jockey: J J Slevin

BUSSEL along. Distant second in the Golden Miller last season before a big handicap run at Punchestown. Returned with lucky win at Listowel where he stayed 3m. Needs more from 7lb higher but not out of it.

POTTERMAN 1

Jockey: Tom Cannon

POT and colt. His form seems on the slide and he was beaten a long way out in the Badger Beer last time.

CORACH RAMBLER 3

Jockey: Derek Fox

RAMBLE on. Won the Ultima at Cheltenham and needed his comeback at Carlisle. Up the weights but stays and few miles on the clock. Shortlisted.

LE MILOS 4

Jockey: Harry Skelton

EXTRA Milos. Did well last season and returned with easy win at Bangor on debut for the Skeltons. Has just a 4lb penalty and can improve with that under his belt.

REMASTERED 3

Jockey: David Noonan

MASTER plan. Fell four out in this last year when tanking along and is back from 4lb lower. Smooth hurdles win at Aintree last time and he won’t be far away.

OUR POWER 4

Jockey: Sam Twiston-Davies

POWER surge. Improved to win at Ascot on comeback when he stayed 3m strongly. A 5lb higher mark looks fair and Sam Thomas is still in good form. Contender.

GERICAULT ROQUE 5

Jockey: Tom Scudamore

GERI can. Ran a cracker when second in the Ultima last season after being in a battle from a long way out. Only 1lb higher and is fit from a hurdles spin around Aintree. Yard in form and ran well over course and distance last season.

OSCAR ELITE 3

Jockey: Harry Cobden

OSCAR nominated. Yet to win a chase but was a good third in the Ultima and needed his comeback over hurdles at Wetherby. Fair weight so each-way shout.

ANNSAM 2

Jockey: Adam Wedge

SORRY Sam. Stays and only 3lb higher than last chase win but looked out of sorts at Ascot last time.

LORD ACCORD 3

Jockey: Richie McLernon

GOOD Lord. Good second to Frodon in Badger Beers and stays. Off same mark so place claims in this tougher race.

RED HAPPY 1

Jockey: Philip Armson

NOT Happy. Refused two out in the Sussex National last time and needs more on this hike in grade.

DIABLO DE ROUHET 1

Jockey: Jack Tudor

DIAB-NO. Has had training problems and hasn’t shown enough to figure at this level.

Templegate’s tip

ROQUE on for a Coral Gold Cup win.

GERICAULT ROCQUE ran a belter at the Cheltenham Festival and has much more to come this season. He’s fit from a hurdles run and looks ahead of the handicapper.

Threeunderthrufive is on the upgrade and looks a threat for Paul Nicholls, while Le Milos was a big improver on debut for the Skeltons last time.

Our Power stayed strongly at Ascot and is another who looks unexposed at this level.
