Curragh Report: Aidan O’Brien does it again as Peaceful backs up the talking with cosy Irish 1000 Guineas win

AIDAN O’Brien has a big decision on his hands after Peaceful landed the Irish 1000 Guineas at a canter.

His filly was in a class of her own as she made the most of her handy position under stand-in first choice Seamie Heffernan to kick clear and claim the trainers ninth win in the Classic as part of a memorable four-timer.

Peaceful quickened up past Valeria Messalina over a furlong from the line and it was a case of catch me if you can. Donnacha O’Brien’s Fancy Blue was second-best with So Wonderful in third to make it a true family affair. Favourite Albigna was out of the frame.

In less than a week the master of Ballydoyle has mopped up both the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket with Love, and the Irish equivalent with his latest Galileo Group 1 winner.

Love remained favourite for the Investec Oaks at Epsom in the first week of July, but it could be that her biggest threat lies within the O’Brien camp. The bookies think so, and made Peaceful the 5-1 second favourite.

But O’Brien indicated that they could meet even sooner, with both possibles for the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot next week.
