Enable retired? Not just yet – but we look at her greatest moments on the big stage and her six biggest wins

THIRD Arc or no third Arc, Enable has been a horse of a lifetime for John Gosden and Frankie Dettori.

The Italian summed it up best. “I love horses, but I love Enable more than the rest.” We take a look at her biggest moments.

One of many flying dismounts Dettori enjoyed during her career

The Oaks – June 2017

Sent off a relatively unconsidered 6-1 shot behind Rhododendron, Enable came of age in the thunder and lightning at Epsom.

She cruised home in the driving rain by five lengths to announce herself as a possible superstar.

You don’t see many Classics won like that and she had punters purring about where she may head next.

The King George – July 2017

We didn’t have to wait long to see she was the real deal. She dispatched her rivals in the Irish Oaks before dominating Ulysses in the King George.

It was the first time she faced the older horses and she took it in her stride.

She’d now won her last three Group 1s by 15 lengths and a superstar had been born.

The Arc – October 2017

It takes a special horse to be sent off odds-on in an Arc, but those that backed her had little to worry about.

She landed her first Arc in Paris comfortably, her first win outside Britain and Ireland.

Connections quickly signalled that she’d be back for more next year. The public were delighted, other trainers not so.

The Arc – October 2018

This wasn’t the prettiest to watch, but it came at the end of a troubled campaign of niggles.

Ill-fated Sea Of Class almost stole the show, but Dettori and Enable JUST held on.

Gosden said afterwards she was only 90% fit and it demonstrated just how hardy, talented and determined a horse she is.

The Breeders’ Cup Turf – November 2018

This was one of her best ever races to watch. Dettori and Ryan Moore had a ding-dong across the pond as Magical threatened to end her winning run.

But she did what she does best, and always just did enough. Her winning run was extended to nine.

And she’d now won top-level races in Ireland, England, France and the States.

The King George – July 2019

A real race for the ages. Enable’s narrow win over Crystal Ocean will go down as one of the best ever.

The pair were at it for the entire Ascot straight, but like all of the best, Enable had enough in the locker.

This was her 11th win on the spin and a ninth Group 1.

The King George – July 2020

Enable was back as a six-year-old, not many saw that coming, and she landed a historic third King George.

The race wasn’t one to remember as she beat two rivals, but her CV was now one of the best there’s ever been.

It looked a perfect stepping stone to the Arc and Dettori was already getting emotional on her farewell tour.
