Excitement grows as The Queen’s Reach For The Moon wins Solario Stakes and now just 14-1 for Epsom Derby

THE Queen could have a Derby contender on her hands in the shape of Reach For The Moon.

The John and Thady Gosden-trained two-year-old stormed to an emphatic win in the Solario Stakes at Sandown.

Reach For The Moon is now just 14-1 for next year’s Derby

And the bookies were impressed with the son of Sea The Stars, with Coral slashing him into 14-1 second favourite behind Point Lonsdale (10-1) for next season’s Derby.

Her Majesty will be in attendance at Epsom in June as part of her Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

And it appears she will have her biggest chance of a Classic winner since Carlton House finished a close third behind Pour Moi in 2011.

Reach For The Moon has made good progress this summer, finishing second in the Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot before easily breaking his maiden at Newbury.

He travelled powerfully through the Group 3 Solario Stakes under Frankie Dettori and put the bed with a very smart turn of foot.

Gosden has won the race with some smart types in the past – including champion miler Kingman – and Reach For The Moon is bred to excel over further than 7f.
