PUNTERS were left perplexed after the final race at Huntingdon on Saturday after a photo finish was handed to Commander Rocks by a ‘flared nostril’.
Paul D’Arcy’s 18-1 shot was given the race ahead of The Turtle Said despite images showing what looked like a dead heat.
And race fans on social media reacted in disbelief, comparing it to the finish at Cheltenham last week that saw Elle Est Belle and Ishkhara Lady both handed a share of first place.
One tweet read: “Looks closer than last weeks dead heat.”
Another joked: “By a flared nostril.”
And another said: “So you can get a winner for that race but not for the dead heat last week??”
The 3.34 Bet 10 Get 20 “Junior” Maiden Open National Hunt Flat Race saw Countess Reach take a strong lead out the blocks.
But Commander Rocks got himself in front down the home straight before The Turtle Said forced a photo finish with a late dash to the line.
But Commander Rocks was handed the victory and snared the £2,274.30 in prize money with The Turtle Said settling for £667.80 with Shalott back in third.
Trainer D’Arcy tweeted: “So Pleased for owner/breeder Sandy Seymour – very well deserved.”
