Frankie Dettori Banned After Winning Race with His Horse Disqualified and Placed Last

Frankie Dettori, the renowned jockey, has been hit with a ban after a controversial race at Santa Anita, where his horse was disqualified and placed last. This comes just days after his stunning last-to-first victory on King Of Steel at Champions Day in the UK.

From First to Last

Dettori's misfortune occurred at Santa Anita, the site of the upcoming Breeders' Cup. Riding Circle Of Trust, a two-year-old filly trained by Philip D’Amato, Dettori initially crossed the finish line in first place in a maiden race last Saturday. However, stewards noticed that Dettori had caused interference to rival horses Blue Oasis and Motet.

Ban and Suspension

Following a thorough review, Dettori was officially banned for "careless riding." The ban, lasting three days, will be effective from November 5th, the day after the Breeders' Cup, and also applies on November 10th and 11th. This additional ban adds to Dettori's existing suspension, which already prevents him from participating in the prestigious Melbourne Cup held in Australia next week. The earlier suspension was a result of two whip rules violations at Ascot, where Dettori went over the limit while riding Trawlerman to victory in the Long Distance Cup and broke the whip rules on his runner-up finish aboard Kinross in the Champions Sprint Stakes.

Looking Ahead

Despite these setbacks, Dettori remains undeterred and will be reunited with King Of Steel in the Breeders' Cup Turf on Saturday. This highly anticipated race will take place just two weeks after their remarkable triumph at Ascot. Fans and punters alike will be eagerly watching to see if Dettori can overcome adversity and continue his winning streak.
