Frankie Dettori banned from two of the biggest races of the year as potential £600,000 payday goes up in smoke

FRANKIE DETTORI could be in for a brutal weekend if he sees a potential half a million quid payday go up in smoke.

The world’s most famous jockey, 52, is banned from racing in the Coral-Eclipse at Sandown and the Prix Jean Prat in Deauville.

Dettori is banned from racing in two of the biggest contests of the season

Dettori was due to ride long-time Coral favourite Emily Upjohn and looked set for the big ride on 2000 Guineas hero Chaldean in France.

But he is barred from riding either owing to the nine-day ban he got for careless riding on The King’s horse Saga at last month’s Royal Ascot.

The ban could end up being one of his most, if not the most, costly of the season given the gargantuan money on offer.

Victory in Saturday’s blockbuster Group 1 at the Surrey track is worth a massive £425,325.

While a win in the French 7f contest will bring with it a cheque for just under £200,000.

With Chaldean likely to be at the head of the market for the French race and Emily Upjohn certain to give market rival Paddington a run for his money, it’s possible Dettori could miss out on, financially at least, some of the biggest rides all season.

With around £625,000 up for grabs in all, Dettori’s roughly ten per cent cut as a jockey would be worth a cool £62,500.

That’s around four months rent on his astonishing Newmarket mansion he will be renting out while he travels the world in the final few months of his racing career and retirement.

Charlie Appleby’s retained rider William Buick will hop on Coronation Cup winner Emily Upjohn on Saturday.

While Andrew Balding’s No1 man Oisin Murphy will take steer of son of Frankel Chaldean on Sunday.

In a cruel twist of fate, Dettori will also miss out on his last chance to win the July Cup.

That is the only Group 1 in Britain the jockey has not won in his illustrious career.

He will be serving a separate eight-day whip ban for his ride on Inspiral when the Newmarket race is run on Saturday, July 15.

Victory in that race will be worth around £350,000.
