Frankie Dettori Looks Forward to Final Ebor Festival with Mixed Emotions

Ebor Week Kicks Off at Knavesmire

As the final York Ebor Festival approaches, legendary jockey Frankie Dettori shares his mixed emotions. While excited for the brilliant meeting at one of the world's best tracks, he's also saddened by the fact that his retirement from the saddle is getting closer. Dettori plans to make the most of every moment and is looking forward to riding at the Ebor meeting, also known as the Royal Ascot of the north.

Racing at York Holds Special Memories for Dettori

With almost 30 years of experience at York, Dettori holds the track close to his heart. Some of his biggest highs, including wins on greats like Halling, Singspiel, Sakhee, and Authorized, took place at the Juddmonte International. Dettori's equine love, Enable, also delivered an unforgettable performance at the Yorkshire Oaks in 2019. Another standout horse, Stradivarius, collected multiple wins at the Dante meeting and the Ebor Festival.

Confidence is Key for Dettori

Heading into Ebor week, Dettori is riding high on confidence from recent wins. He triumphed at the Jacques Le Marois in Deauville with Inspiral and had a successful day at Newbury with Arrest. Dettori recognizes the great training performance by John and Thady with Inspiral, who may next compete in Ireland or the Sun Chariot at Newmarket before setting sights on the Breeders' Cup. Arrest has booked a ticket to Doncaster for the St Leger next month, while Gregory is Dettori's pick for the Great Voltigeur.

Gregory's Laid-Back Style Keeps Everyone Guessing

Dettori has high hopes for Gregory, coming off a win in the Queen's Vase at Ascot. This laid-back colt didn't race as a two-year-old, which Dettori sees as an advantage for maturity. While it's hard to gauge his form, Dettori is confident that Gregory will continue to improve, especially considering his cool personality. Fans can only hope for another impressive performance from Gregory on the track.

Can Dettori Make History at the Juddmonte International?

If Dettori can clinch a win at the Juddmonte International, he will surpass his hero Lester Piggott for most wins in the race. While attention is focused on Paddington, the three-year-old favorite, Dettori's mount Mostahdaf shouldn't be underestimated. Rated higher after a sensational win at the Prince Of Wales's Stakes, Mostahdaf faces the challenge of giving Paddington 7lb in weight for age. With a beautiful and powerful horse like Mostahdaf, Dettori is determined to give it his best shot.

Note: Frankie Dettori's comments were made in association with World Pool.
