Frankie Dettori Sparks Controversy with £15,000 Appearance Fee on Farewell Tour

Frankie Dettori, the world-renowned jockey, has caused a massive split among fans with claims that he is charging a £15,000 appearance fee on his global farewell tour. The 52-year-old recently raced in Ireland and Hungary, with upcoming trips to the US, Australia, Hong Kong, and England still on his schedule. However, a dispute over the fee led to Dettori missing out on a race in Listowel, Ireland.

Price Dispute Revealed

A report on irishracing.com has shed light on the figures behind the disagreement. According to the report, Dettori initially agreed to a €4000 fee before deciding to retire. When the racecourse contacted him again to confirm arrangements, the price had skyrocketed to £15,000.

Fans Divided

The news of Dettori's increased appearance fee has divided his fans. While some view it as a "disgusting" move, others argue that he is simply trying to earn a living. One supporter praised Dettori for his contribution to the racing world, saying, "For all their talent, Ryan Moore, Tom Marquand, etc., will not add anyone to the crowd or gate money. Racing will miss him when he is gone."

However, there are those who believe that if a set price was agreed upon, it should be honored, while others argue that Dettori's status as "the face of world racing" justifies the fee increase.

Frankie Dettori: The Legend

Despite the controversy, Dettori remains a massively popular draw wherever he goes. The jockey, who recently sold his old memorabilia for over £75,000, has not commented on the claims. He and his wife Catherine also plan to rent out their Newmarket mansion for £15,000 a month after they retire.
