Frankie Dettori takes his farewell tour to Hungary

A new challenge awaits Dettori as he races in Hungary

Frankie Dettori, the legendary jockey, is about to embark on a new adventure as part of his global farewell world tour. After announcing his retirement last year, Dettori is set to break new ground by racing in Hungary this weekend.

A legendary year for Dettori

Dettori has had an incredible 2023, with numerous Group 1 wins under his belt. There are even rumors that he might extend his racing career into next year.

Teaming up with top owners

For his Hungarian debut, Dettori will be teaming up with esteemed owners Jim and Fitri Hay. The Hays approached Dettori after Glorious Goodwood, and he couldn't resist their offer.

A new challenge on unfamiliar turf

Dettori will be racing in the 1m4f Kincsem Stakes and the 1m Zakarias Aperianov Memorial-Imperial Stakes. Despite lacking experience on the Hungarian track, Dettori has enlisted the help of his best friend Rab Havlin for some tips.

Two horses, one choice

With two horses entered for each race, Dettori will have a tough decision to make. He can choose between Spledant and Tides Of War in the Kincsem Stakes, and Silent Film and Sceptic in the Imperial Stake.

Unprecedented support

Dettori expressed his gratitude towards the Hays for sending over horses from Britain, a move that is quite rare in the industry. He acknowledges that their support has been instrumental in this new chapter of his career.

Hungary's push for racing revival

The Hungarian government, along with the Ministry of Defence, is working to revive horse racing in the country. The Autumn international meeting is just one of the fixtures aimed at promoting the sport.

A grand finale in Hong Kong

Dettori's global farewell tour doesn't end in Hungary. His final ride will take place at the Hong Kong Mile in Sha Tin on December 11, marking the end of an illustrious career… or maybe not.
