‘He did this before he won the Arc’ – Torquator Tasso trainer fires huge warning ahead of King George at Ascot

LOOK out – 80-1 Arc hero Torquator Tasso is back and looking for more huge scalps.

The shock winner of last year’s premier middle distance race has been impressing his trainer ahead of a tilt at Saturday’s King George at Ascot.

Torquator Tasso is being primed for a shot at the King George

Westover and Emily Upjohn lead the betting for the £1.25million Ascot blockbuster.

Torquator Tasso shocked the racing world at Longchamp last October.

The Marcel Weiss-trained superstar rebounded from a low-key pipe opener by winning a Group 2 with ease at Hamburg earlier this month.

Now Weiss says a piece of work the five-year-old did was a replica of what the horse showed before winning the Arc.

The trainer has warned everything – including the ground – is primed for his stable star to strike again.

Torquator Tasso prepared for his trip to Britain with an 11-furlong workout at Mulheim Racecourse under regular jockey Rene Piechulek.

And Weiss said: “I was very happy with the horse in his work.

“It was a very important piece of work and it gives me a lot of confidence because I saw the horse like he was last year and he’s getting better and better through the season.

“After the Arc we worked out a plan for this year and it was a wish of the owner to go to Ascot before going back to the Arc.

“Danedream also won the Arc and then the King George for Germany, which tells you that you can try to do it and you can win.

“The ground will not be a problem; Ascot is a very nice track and it is kept in good condition, especially for the quality horses this weekend.

“At Hamburg he won on fast ground. He’s just maybe a bit better when the ground is softer, but he can go on every ground.”
