Heartbroken Owner Mourns Loss of Horse After Tragic Incident at Chelmsford Race

Devastating Turn of Events

A horse suffered a fatal injury during a race at Chelmsford, leaving the owner heartbroken. The incident occurred during the 8.30pm contest on Thursday, leading to the race being voided.

Medical Attention

Medics rushed to the track to treat Lunar Space, a five-year-old horse trained by Jamie Osborne, after it suffered a knock and lost its action. Unfortunately, despite efforts to save the horse, the injury proved fatal.

Heartbreaking Farewell

Co-owner Steve Whiston expressed his devastation over the loss, stating that he is heartbroken. He thanked everyone for the amazing memories and said that the days with Lunar Space will stay with him forever.

Investigation Underway

The circumstances surrounding the race being voided will be investigated by the BHA (British Horseracing Authority). Officials on the track used hazard flags and stop whistles to signal jockeys to pull up their horses, but the yellow 'stop race' flag was not deployed as required.

Race Voided for Welfare Reasons

The stewards' report stated that the race was declared void on the grounds of welfare. The riders had enough time to safely pull up their mounts after the hazard flags and whistles were deployed. The incident has been forwarded to the BHA for further consideration.
