‘He’s a cracking each-way’ – Ruby Walsh’s Cheltenham Festival tip could ruin punters’ bets

RUBY WALSH’S second Cheltenham Festival tip is threatening to ruin punters’ ante post bets.

The legendary jockey reckons his pick is a ‘cracking each way’ and could cause an upset in one of the key races against a horse punters are relying on as one of the bankers of the Festival.

Walsh has been careful with his money in the run up to March’s mega meeting.

But his one bet so far looks a decent one, after he backed Al Boum Photo to win a third Gold Cup at 16-1.

Willie Mullins’ horse is now into 8-1 and a live chance.

Walsh revealed his second pick on Racing TV’s Road to Cheltenham show on Thursday night.

He plumped for last year’s Supreme winner Appreciate It to serve it up to Honeysuckle in the Champion Hurdle.

Willie Mullins’ Appreciate It will be making his first run of the season in the race, after a career over fences was aborted due to injury.

Walsh said: “I can’t think of a winner of this race that won on seasonal debut.

“It’s going to be hard but he is potentially the only horse that could possibly challenge her.

“I’m not going to be so brave as to say beat her!

“But I think looking at his form he is ahead of the opposition and I think at 5-1 he’s a cracking each-way price.

“I think it’s a bet!”

Ribbed by co-host Lydia Hislop on why he keeps picking Mullins runners, Walsh quipped: “I know that. I like to get a return though.”

Superstar mare Honeysuckle made it 14 from 14 at last weekend’s Dublin Racing Festival.

The Henry De Bromhead-trained runner is a skinny 4-9 to defend her title, while Appreciate It is a best price 5-1.

Paul Townend will ride Appreciate It and he told the Racing Post he is desperate to get on him again.

He said: “Appreciate It is the horse with all the potential.

“We don’t know how good Honeysuckle is – where is the end of her talent – but I’m looking forward to having a go at her with something with the potential that Appreciate It shows.”
